What is in Nasi Katok?

Every country has a traditional dish, more likely it is a fast food. England has fish and chips, Brunei has Nasi Katok. Unfortunately Nasi Katok is unbeatable in terms of price ($1). I have never tried the dish as I am a pescatarian. I guess I am missing out?

What I do know though is that most Bruneian have tried it. But I guess most Bruneian's will not know what is exactly in the cheap dish. So I will tell you the (avg) calories and the nutrients you will be getting in this dish.

Total calories: 700 kcals + drinks

Rice (nasi) 150g - 200kcals

Fried chicken (Ayam) 150g - 400kcals

2 slices of cucmber (if your lucky) - 5kcals

Sambal 50g -  100kcal (this is depending on if the samba has been made with oil)

Additional drink

Pokka Ice tea 250ml -100 kcals
Coca-cola can - 140 kcal
Water - 0 kcals

Marconutrients

Protein - 35g
Carbs 50-g
Fats - 30g

This is all based on an average portion size. Always look to be mindful of how much food is on your plate. Even though you cannot track it, understand what the average portion size is.

So having this meal is packed full of calories. You may be full after it also, however you will not be getting vital nutrients (malnourished).

I hope this helps, please let me know if you like this content so I can review more on the South East Asian diet.

Have a great day
