5 signs you should not feel in the gym

We all want to get our monies worth when we hit the gym. So when we smash a workout we want to know we have some signs that it was worth it. However, you do not have to feel or perform certain things to know you've had a good workout.

Sweat

Having a good sweat in the gym is a great sign you have raised the heart rate for your body to sweat to try to cool down the body. But as the body adapts raising your heart rate becomes harder because your cardiovascular endurance is improving. Depending on your goals you do not always have to chase the sweat to feel like you have done a workout. (Always look to replace lost fluid)

Muscle aches

DOM's or delayed onset muscle soreness is when you feeling achey after a workout. That feeling when you can not sit down because you bum is so sensitive from the squat session. For the everyday people looking to feel confident (beginners/intermediate) you want to initially be feeling some soreness when you begin a new routine but you also need to assess if your body is adapting to the routine. The last thing you want is to be aching after every session.

Muscle pain

This is different to muscle aches (DOMS), as it is an indicator that you may have an injury that limits you in the gym. A prime example is press ups. People who perform press up incorrectly often have shoulder pain that has a certain level of tolerance. This should be avoided and my advice is to speak to a fitness professional to assess your concerns.

Empty stomach

You do not need to workout on a empty stomach to feel as if you will burn more calories. For some people they feel comfortable doing a workout with no food consumed 2-3 hours before a workout. If your someone that has a energy crash during your workout because of not eating, try having a small meal 1-2 hours before.

Feeling lethargic/lazy

Depending on what time you train, you will experience low to high energy. Some people have no choice to workout in the evening while for some the morning is the time they feel makes them perform better in their day. The main part of working out is to improve overall quality of life. Improving your mood, energy levels and recovery from a long day. If you are going home at the end of a busy day, ready to crash into bed you may want to look at your lifestyle or the amount/intensity of your workouts

Summary

Most likely everyone has experienced one the above. So it is not to say you should avoid any of them.  It is a reminder that you can achieve the same results or even better if you know certain signs that could increase your performance in the gym.

Have a great day.
